Note that Ellis does not see these as stages, but as characteristics of search behaviour that may occur in different mixes and in different sequences depending upon the individual and/or the problem area. Clearly, however - starting must be at the beginning and ending must be at the end!
The place of Ellis’s characteristics in the overall problem solving model is clear - those characteristics may form part of each ISB act.
